Welcoming Back Summer
May 4th 2011alexUncategorized
April gave Chicago some especially dynamic weather this year—and I hope you avoided the late spring snow! May, with its gentler, more inviting character, is arriving just in time. So pack away the winter clothing once and for all, and bring back the shorts and swimwear!
CHICAGO FUN FACTS
Chicago is often referred to as the “Second” City, but it’s an undisputed first in many things. For example, did you know:
• The Lincoln Park Zoo is the country’s oldest public zoo.
• Western Avenue is the world’s longest continuous street.
• Harold Washington Library is the world’s largest public library.
• The Adler Planetarium was the first-ever planetarium established in the western hemisphere.
• The world’s first steel-framed skyscrapers were built in Chicago.

BBQ Do’s and Don’ts
Memorial Day weekend can be considered the “official” opening to barbecue season, and Chicago, true to its meat-packing history, is full of people ready to fire up the grills. Whether the BBQ is at one of Chicago’s many beaches or at somebody’s home, here are a couple of quick tips and etiquette reminders for both hosts and guests.
• Make sure that the grill and all eating surfaces are clean.
• Bring something to share unless specifically requested not to. If you’re a vegetarian, bring your own food to grill.
• Practice fire safety and read all instructions. Douse coals with water when the grilling is over.
• Drink responsibly.
• Keep a watchful eye on any small children.
• Be social!
• If you’re one of the last people remaining, offer to help clean up.
Have a great month!
